Hi. I would like to know more about your principle doctrines. What do you believe in that is different than other churches? What would I need to do to join your church? Does it matter that I’m a woman? As a woman, would I have any limitations in your church? Should I change my style of dressing? Thanks.

Hi Miriam. I'm very happy that you're interested in learning more about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints! The restored gospel of Christ has been such an incredible blessing in my life and in the lives of millions of others. It's wonderful to belong to such an international family. Most importantly, this church has helped me grow closer to the Savior Jesus Christ. I sincerely hope that you can find these same blessings in your own life.
Mormon doctrine is hard to resume in a few sentences. You can learn a lot about the church's teachings on the pages of this website or at the church's official webpage. The "Mormon Church" is a beautiful Christian religion. Is true, however, that it is a unique kind of Christianity; Mormons are not Catholics, Protestants, or Orthodox Christians. They don't accept the creeds established after New Testament times.
Given that Mormons are Christians, they believe in many of the same things other Christians believe, including:
Christ is divine and salvation comes only through Him.
The Bible is the word of God.
People should love one another.
In 1820, Joseph Smith had a vision of God the Father and Jesus Christ. They instructed him to restore Christs ancient church in modern times.
Mormons belong to a unique branch of Christianity, however. We're not Catholics or Protestants, so naturally we have a few beliefs that are unique. Most of these differences are small. One significant difference relates to the authority to act in God's name. Mormons believe that shortly after the death of Christ and His apostles, the early Christian church was heavily influenced by Greek and Roman philosophies and politics. Despite the efforts of many noble men and women, the true Church of Christ was lost because of these external influences and internal changes realized by the hands of men. Mormons believe that God restored the original Christian Church, together with the authority to act in His name, in 1820 through a man named Joseph Smith.
Women are valued members of our Church. We believe that men and women are equally important in God's eyes, since we are all God's children. In the Church, women and men have different roles, but both are equally significant. Both men and women pray and preach in Mormon meetings, both serve as leaders in the church, and both make important contributions. It would not be possible to maintain the international growth and humanitarian efforts of the Church if it were not for the wonderful Mormon women who strengthen the church in every country where they live.
Both Mormon men and women use normal clothing, but they emphasize modesty. Shirts usually cover the shoulders and are not too revealing. Shorts are usually at least knee length. Unlike some other churches in Latin America, women can wear pants, though they usually wear skirts to church meetings on Sundays.

I recently wrote an article entitled "How can I Join the Church?" that you might find helpful. To join the church, I suggest you meet with the Mormon missionaries, volunteers who visit people in their homes to teach them about the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. You can request a missionary visit online. You're also certainly welcome to visit our church any Sunday to see how we worship! We love to have visitors! :)
