First off, I mean no disrespect. But I’m endlessly curious about your church’s temples. Whenever I ask my Mormon friends, they simply say that they can’t talk about it. Is a nonmember not allowed to know about them. Or is it more of a unspoken rule not to talk about them?

Hi friend. I'm happy you came hear to ask your question. For most Mormons, much of what goes on in the temple is very private. We don't really like talking about it publically with others. That having been said, there's a lot we can and do talk about. Let me give you some webpages that might help:

What is the temple endowment ceremony? Is it a secret ritual?

What are Mormon temple weddings (sealings) like? Are they secret?

Temples are sacred not secret. We don't openly discuss the subject because of the nature of the covenants we make in the temple. If you want to know all about the temples then read Boyd K. Packer's book "The Holy Temple" (summary). It gives as much detail on the subject as appropriate to talk about outside the temple. Also if there is a temple open house around where you live we always invite the public to come and see what the temples look like and what actually is in them before they are dedicated.

The temple really isn't all that mysterious. Inside they are beautiful, especially the older ones like Manti, Logan, Salt Lake, and St. George. The origional pioneer workmanship and paintings are beutiful to behold.... But you can actually get books with pictures of the open houses and what the rooms look like. Do a google search on LDS temple open houses.

If you really want to get in and see a temple in action, you can contact the missionaries and start the journy to getting there. Everyone is invited to follow Christ. Come to our Church and see how you'll feel.

Thank you for your question. As members of the church we are taught that temple worship is sacred, and that we are not to discuss it with anyone, whether they are members or not. At the same time, there is ample information freely available from the church itself that gives a lot of information without revealing the sacred nature of temple worship. Gospel Topics: Temples also has great information, including a short video.

To us, temples are very special. We build them to be the homes of God should he ever chose to visit. They are where certain ordinacnes are performed. They are so sacred and holy that we only disscuss them with member of our own church. This is not being exclusive or secretive, just respectful. There is no rule per say, but the things that happen are between us and Heavenly Father. I hope this helps you understand.
