Hi. I’m a member of the church, and in my highschool I met another boy who’s also a member. We were talking about the church, and he confessed that when he was baptized, he was not worthy of baptism. He said he was only baptized because he liked a mormon girl and wanted to have a chance to date her. I was very surprised. He later told me that he did have a testimony of the church, even though when he was baptized he didn’t feel the spirit for obvious reasons. He also says that he’s felt God’s spirit on some occasions, after his baptism. What should be done in this case? Does he need to be baptized again? Thanks.

Hi friend. Obviously, it is a big mistake to get baptized just because you like a Mormon girl. It's fine to be first introduced to the church through a girlfriend, but it's important to be truly converted-to feel that Christ is really changing your heart-before accepting baptism. The good thing about your friend is that he does seem to have a testimony of the church. Even if that testimony is now small, it can grow! I don't think he needs to be baptized again. He just needs to repent so he can get back on the right path. He should talk with his bishop. He's made some mistakes, but through the atonement of Jesus Christ, those mistakes don't need to ruin his life. I hope he finds peace through the gospel of Jesus Christ. Thanks for your question.
