In the LDS church you are supposed to work toward getting sealed in the temple. What is the difference between marrying a non member, never getting sealed but continuing to live a happy life as an active member and never getting married to anyone at all. When you die wouldn’t it be the same thing, you wouldnt have been sealed to anyone? Aren’t things going to work out in the afterlife? What would be wrong in being happily married in this life if you can still live as an active member.

I have been thinking a lot about how to answer this question, because it seems to be something people wonder about. So, I will start with the first question: what is the difference between marrying a nonmember, never getting sealed but continuing to live a happy life as an active member and never getting married to anyone at all?

The big key difference here is, in one instance you are getting sealed, and in the other you aren't. There are people in this life who will not have the opportunity to marry, and we have been told by the leaders of the church, that they will be given that opportunity if they live a righteous life and do the best they can. They will have the opportunity to be sealed at another time. This blessing will not be withheld from them. This makes sense to me because why would someone be punished for a choice they weren't allowed to make?

If you choose to get married outside the temple, you are choosing to not get sealed. When you die and you are not sealed, you are no longer tied to the person you were married to in this life. Nothing binds you to that person.

Nothing would be wrong with being happily married in this life and living as an active member in this life.... It's only after this life you would run into problems...

"In the celestial glory there are three heavens or degrees; and in order to obtain the highest, a man must enter into this order of the priesthood [meaning the new and everlasting covenant of marriage]; and if he does not, he cannot obtain it."

So if you are not sealed by the holy spirit of promise to your spouse then you cannot obtain the highest level of glory in the celestial kingdom... Which is also the only kingdom where you will have a continuation of seed and kids for eternity.. All other kingdoms you don't get that... (read your D&C 76)

No church or organization on earth has the power and keys of authority to seal a marriage beyond the grave. In fact the language of most mortal marriages the person performing the mariage decrees your seperation while giving your earthy authority of husband and wife.... "Till death do you part" is the phrase.

So if you choose to live only an earthly mariage then when this earth passes your marriage will pass along with the earth.

I'm not sure what you are asking here.

The prophets and scripture tell us that you need to be sealed by the holy spirit or promise, live your marriage worthily and then you'd be given that priceless gift of eternal life... Yes with you spouse by your side. If you don't get sealed by the holy spirit of promis then you are married till death do you part. We are all free to partake of the heavenly gifts, but if you're not willing to partake of that gift then you have made your choice and you get to live with it... Forever... As far as I know.

In dealing with the afterlife Christ specifically tells us in the scriptures.

29 Jesus answered and said unto them, ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

So you're not sealed eternally you are an angel.
