What I don’t understand is why other religions can be so rude and critical of mormons. We haven’t done anything wrong. We believe what we want and they can believe what they want. Mormons respect others’ religions. Even those that seem extreme and false. Why do people find it so hard to respect us?

People who are in opposition to the LDS faith are in fact witnessing to the world that the LDS faith is true! The prophet Lehi taught to his son

"For it must needs be, that there is an opposition in all things. If not so, my first–born in the wilderness, righteousness could not be brought to pass, neither wickedness, neither holiness nor misery, neither good nor bad. "

Elder Tad R. Callister (of the first quoram of the 70) explained - "Before the advent of something good and great, Satan always works to prevent it. It is his modus operandi. Such was the case at the birth of the Savior with the slaying of the innocents (see Matt. 2: 16–18). It occurred again when the Savior commenced his mortal mission and was confronted by Satan and his three temptations (see Luke 4: 1–13). The hours of His atonement were no exception—there was the agony in the garden, the betrayal, the denunciation, the mock trial, the scourging, and the crucifixion. At every critical juncture, Satan was lying in wait attempting to destroy the Savior and his work. And so it would be with the prophet Joseph. Satan and his nefarious forces would be present in all their diabolical fury to prevent the restoration from going forward. Observed the prophet, "in relation to the kingdom of God, the devil always sets up his kingdom at the very same time in opposition to God. "

So it is now with the opposition to the only true and everlasing church on the earth. Satan wants to keep all the people, he can convince to be on his side, reviling against the church so that as many as he might get to fall, will fall. Satan is miserable knowing that he made a choice long ago that has him damned. There is no more hope for him, he knows it, and so once again we see him attempting to cause to fail those who didn't choose his plan in heaven.

The war in heaven is still happening, but Satan cannot force us to fall. He can only tempt us to make wrong choices. So in the end we are our own judges by the choices we make, and desires of our hearts.

Yet like a light turned on in a dark room, the shadows cannot abide the light, and instead flees from light, and cowers in the corners... And so just like Satan and his minions if we consistantly choose light over dark they will flee from us.
