The Mormon clergy is in general made up of unpaid volunteers. Mormon clergymen hold regular secular jobs as engineers, doctors, carpenters, etc., and minister to members of their congregations as volunteers after hours.

A few church positions require a full-time effort, making additional secular employment impossible. These positions include mission presidents, general authorities, apostles, and prophets. Some of the men in these positions can survive on their savings, but others do not have the financial resources. While Church finances are not public, those who work for the church full-time do receive what is described as a "modest" compensation to cover their living expenses. Otherwise they would starve!
