He Loves Us

by Austin Donnelly

I have a testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I know that He and Heavenly Father love each and everyone of us, His literal children. It is easier to bear my testimony in text, but if you knew me, you’d understand that it is VERY difficult for me speak in public. I am only 16 years old, but I have been a member all my life and I know it is true with all my heart. I don’t want to crowd with a long story, but I feel it important to talk about an experience I just had two weeks ago that has strengthened my testimony and my connection to the Lord. I’ll make it quick. I went on my Stake’s Trek just two weeks ago. Not only did I feel closer to the Saints who crossed the plains than ever before and their great faith, but I was in a position where I was asked to reenact a very touching story, the Sweetwater River crossing. I along with other boys carried every person in our company across a freezing river. I only had a taste of what they truly had to suffer, but to be in such a position that I represented how our Savior helps us overcome things we cannot do on our own, I felt so close to Him, more so than ever before. After I had read a touching letter from my parents and prayed thanks to Heavenly Father, we set off for our camp. But, shortly as we began, I felt… a hand touch the back of my shoulder. I looked back assuming it was someone in my family, but the closest person behind me was far back. I felt something… and it was real as my testimony is real. I know He lives, and He answers our prayers. It is in fact just that that even saved my grandmother’s life. I hope I didn’t make that too long, but I hope whoever reads this will feel the Spirit as well. I leave you with these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
