Testimony of a Gay Historical Researcher
byI have done a significant amount of research over the past few years into the history of the LDS church. I am also gay and haven’t been active for several years. My research has led me to significant problems with the history of the church for which I have found no satisfactory answers. Nonetheless, every time I listen to a church leader or member bear testimony of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, Joseph Smith and the first vision of the Father and the son, I get the same clear powerful feeling that I have always gotten. That feeling is pure and complete. I long for that feeling. It is unlike any good feeling I have ever gotten in my life. The clarity I feel when I feel it is unlike anything else… Ever. My testimony is that those feelings come from a pure place and give me hope that indeed these things are true. I cannot reconcile my research with those feelings. I simply know what I feel and I know the clarity and consistency with which they come. The history of the church may be battered and full of problems, yet they come clear and true every time without fail.
