Members are Missionaries Every Day
byI have a testimony of the power of a good example. I am 18 years old and not a member of the Church. I have been dating a wonderful LDS guy for almost 9 months, and through his example, I have been led to the Church. I am going to be baptized before I go to college and truly feel like I have found the place that God wants me to be.
Many people may say that my story is JUST a story, but it is much more. If it were not for the example of my boyfriend, I never would have begun investigating the church. In a recent journal entry, I wrote
“I longed to know what it was that made his eyes glow – I wanted to know why he didn’t cuss…”
Not cussing is very associated with LDS members, as is that certain twinkle in the eyes. Those three things really had an impact on me because I had never seen them in anyone before my boyfriend. The world is full of people who curse all the time and don’t have that glow. It is rare to come across someone who does exhibit such awesome qualities—as a matter of fact, most of the people that do are Mormon. I began to respect him for his ability to be different and wondered how I could become different too… and now I am set for baptism.
Every member has the right and responsibility to minister to their fellow man through a positive example. Many people will bash Mormons and dig up their troubled past, but very few can point to a negative experience with a modern-day Mormon. That is the way it should be. By living life for the benefit of Heavenly Father and your fellow man, you will secure your blessings in the hereafter, and allow yourself an opportunity to live with our Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ.
(D&C 18:16) And now, if your joy will be great with one soul that you have brought unto me into the kingdom of my Father, how great will be your joy if you should bring many souls unto me!
There are many ways to bring souls to our Father in heaven, and living a good example is the strongest of those. Living your life in a righteous way WILL help the people around you see the power of God and the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Your example WILL save souls—the souls of those that you barely know as well as the souls of those that you care most deeply about. You ARE a part of Jesus Christ’s church, and he needs you to live as an example to those without the light of the gospel.
I say these things in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
