My Conversion
byI am a convert to the church, the only member in my immediate family. My mom was an alcoholic, and my father never showed affection. I am from a small town in Idaho where everyone is Mormon, so I would often see them and notice how happy they were. One day I met the missionaries and wondered what they had. They seemed so perfect. I made the decision when I was 14 to become a member of the Church. I have gone through many trials and done some things that seemed beyond unforgivable, but the great thing about the gospel is that anyone can be forgiven. I was baptized in 2003. It has taken me this long to be truly converted. The gospel is wonderful; all the blessings received are amazing. One need only take that lone and faithful step to see the amazing things it can do for you. As members of the Church we receive what is called a “patriarchal blessing,” an inspired blessing of council given from God. I was going through some of the worst times in my life at the time I received my patriarchal blessing. The man who gave it to me had never met me before but said some remarkable things that would make the non-believer believe. Patriarchal blessings truly come from God. He said to me that Heavenly Father was mindful of my past and present struggles; it amazed me to know that Heavenly Father loved me enough to realize that I needed to hear those words. Only one other person knew of my struggles. I have a strong testimony of missionary work. Missionaries are faithful and fearless. I know that finding the gospel was the best thing I could have done. I believe that the book of Mormon is the word of God, and that we do indeed have a living prophet. I know all of these things to be true in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
