I just became LDS, which means that I’m fairly new to The Book of Mormon. I love reading the scriptures and feel a real connection with the younger Alma and other prophets in the book. However, I’m unsure about how exactly Lehi and his people go over to the American continent. Do you know what type of ship that they used?

Hi Faylinn. So happy you made the decision to be baptized and that you feel a real connection with Book-of-Mormon prophets! Converts do so much to energize this church. So exciting that you've joined us!
We don't know much about the ship that Lehi built. I imagine it wasn't all that sophisticated, though. For comparison, some researchers think Polynesians reached the Americas by crossing the Pacific ocean on "advanced" sewn-plank canoes. I'd guess that Lehi's ship was similarly primitive.
As I'm sure you know, these kinds of details, though interesting, aren't really all that important. It's the religious teachings and examples in the Book of Mormon that really make it valuable.
