My great-grandmother was a mormon, the only one in our family. I have a vague memory of her telling me one time that she had someone baptized on my behalf. That sounds like baptism by proxy, but I thought that was only done for the dead. I was very young, so I may not be remembering this correctly. So my question is, can a person be baptized by proxy BEFORE the person dies, either to cover them in life or after death? Thanks! ~Lori

Hi Lori. Much thanks for your question. I think you must be misremembering what your great-grandmother said. You're correct in thinking that proxy baptisms are only performed for our ancestors who have passed. Living people must always be baptized themselves, without any proxy.
