My son now take courses on occasional Sundays to hopefully increase his skills for projects that allow him to spend family time. He is self employed and works long hours at present. Up until now he has taken his children to church on Sundays and sometimes alone when his wife’s profession requires Sunday shifts. I am worried that his children will miss church also but he thinks that he is being led. I joined the church at a time when this was to be avoided at all cost. I am very concerned.

This is a really challenging situation. It is best to avoid working on the Sabbath day whenever possible. To the extent that people can rearrange their schedules, it's very important to do that.
There are some situations, though, where working on Sunday is unavoidable. Certain folks, such as physicians, really need to be available on some Sundays. Other people have jobs with inflexible schedules that are beyond their control. In these cases, it's important to do whatever one can within the limits of their situation to honor the Sabbath day.
Add children into the mix, and things get even more complicated. Regardless of family work situations, it is simply a fact that children will not be able to benefit from what the church offers if they never make it to church. Childhood is often a critical time in a person's spiritual development. I wonder if your son could coordinate with friends in the ward to take his kids to church on days when he can't take them himself?

Thank you for the thoughtful response. It is challenging as I feel torn between supporting my son's needs while adhering to the principles of the Sabbath day.
The children go to church on Sunday if their mother is off work and my son does not do this every Sunday. This has just begun and the impact on the children is certainly one of my main concerns. He lives in an area where there Is not a lot of transportation available but I will share this thought with him.
