I’ve had a question for some time now. I’d love it if someone could answer me. I know that we’re not perfect, neither inside or outside the church. Why do they tell us in the church that we should never be negative or critical? Does that mean that we should just ignore the bad things that some people in the church do?

Hi brother. Thanks for your question. The church needs to be a comfortable place for people to worship. We shouldn't be gossiping about other people's weaknesses behind their backs. We shouldn't be constantly criticizing church leaders, who are volunteers that receive no payment in return for their many hours of dedicated service. We should support and love people, both inside and outside the church.

Now, if you're ever in a situation where you can help someone improve, it's fine to talk with them in private. You can share lessons you've learned from your own life, for example, to help them make the right decision. We should all support each other in kindness. But humiliating people by publicly criticizing them in a way that is hardly productive will help no one. Gossip is both selfish and unchristian. I hope this answer helps.
